The Director of Training develops, plans, organizes, directs, and monitors ongoing comprehensive and specialized training for shelter staff. This position provides training on trauma, child welfare practices, and ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) policies and procedures, human trafficking, and child development. This position will be directly reporting to the Program Director.

All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity is recognized.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree Education, Business Administration (Human Resources), or related field
  • 3 years of experience supervising trainers or other personnel in a related field.
  • 1 Year of experience in training and curriculum development
  • Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed.
  • Excellent presentation and oral and written communication skills required.
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Clean child abuse and neglect or child protective services check (CA/N)
  • Meet the requirements of the contract for all immunizations (Emergency Task Order)
  • Able to evacuate at short notice to accompany residents to a different city for several days at a time.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's Degree Education, Business Administration (Human Resources), or related field
  • 5 years of experience supervising trainers or other personnel in a related field.
  • 3 Year of experience in training and curriculum development

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides training on trauma, child welfare practices, and ORR policies and procedures, human trafficking, child development, positive reinforcement, and constructive guidance, redirecting and de-escalation, age-appropriate activities for UAC, emergency behavior intervention (CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)), Preventing Sexual Abuse (PSA), documenting significant incident reports (SIRs), and CPR/First Aid.
  • Develops long and short-range plans to ensure the training department is in line with the agency's mission, vision, and values.
  • Monitors training programs to ensure performance outcomes are achieved within program objectives and goals
  • Analyses, identifies, and develops training and workshops based on the training needs of the program
  • Prepares staff training in accordance with licensing standards, ORR, and Acuity policies
  • Updates training curriculum with any revisions to ORR policy and procedures and state or local child protective service reporting guidelines
  • Assists senior management to develop long-range plans involving new products and/or services
  • Responsible and accountable for the daily operations and activities, which include administration, training compliance reports, data collection and ensuring/monitoring contract performance.
  • Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient and safe operation of the program
  • Establishes a professional working relationship with onsite client representatives
  • Maintains department supply and equipment inventory to agreed-upon standards.
  • Selects, directs, evaluates, and develops department staff
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

OTHER DUTIES:

  • Performs duties in a safe manner.
  • Follows the corporate safety policy.
  • Participates and supports safety meetings, training, and goals.
  • Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
  • May serve on the OSHA VPP, Safety, and Wellness Committees.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to ascend/descend stairs
  • Ability to lift to 30 lbs.
  • Visual acuity required to complete paperwork, computer work and direct line of sight supervision of staff
  • Able to communicate verbally and listen for constant surveillance of staff activities
  • Able to withstand changing environmental conditions with weather (rain, lightning, extreme heat, and winds)
  • Able to withstand and manipulate through construction areas, sports fields, etc.

Able to receive and understand detailed information through oral communication
