Overview
The RN Navigator plays a crucial role in the care of adult heartcare patients, serving as the primary resource for staff, patients, and families regarding heart rhythm care. Through close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of electrophysiologists, APPs, referring physicians and schedulers, the RN Navigator ensures that patient care adheres to established protocols and quality standards. Serves as a catalyst for optimal patient care and operational efficiencies.

Responsibilities
Patient Care: Communicating with patients during the peri-operative period to provide education, answer questions, and facilitate preoperative evaluations. Confirming completion of all preoperative evaluations (such as CT scans, echocardiograms, and lab work) prior to the procedure day. Confirming that preoperative CT scans are provided and data are available for procedure planning and in-procedure support. Communicating with patients and families on the day of the procedure to answer questions and facilitate safe same-day discharge. Serving as the liaison for inpatient referrals from all Moses Cone hospitals.

Collaboration and Communication: Communicating with patients and families within 24 hours of the procedure to minimize unnecessary ED visits, facilitate follow-up care, improve patient satisfaction, and continue education efforts. Working collaboratively with EP clinic nursing staff to ensure that all pending consults receive appropriate pre-visit education. Communicating with referring providers to facilitate patient care and follow-up, including procedural outcomes.

Data Collection and Reporting: Establishing, reviewing, and presenting morbidity, mortality, and quality outcomes data at least quarterly.
Outreach and education for referring physicians on the current state of electrophysiology treatment strategies and technologies, optimal patient care.

Program Growth and Development: Developing an outreach strategy for Electrophysiology across the health system (hospitals and practices), which includes educating referring physicians about the scope of EP services. Participation in program building, strategic goals, adoption of new therapies, and research efforts.

Program Optimization: Participates in learning opportunities and symposiums to remain up to date on new technologies and patient care strategies to support patient care and efficient processes.
Qualifications

EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in Nursing

EXPERIENCE:
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Minimum 2 years cardiac nursing care

Preferred:
Prior experience with Cardiac procedure patients

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
RN | Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
Valid Driver's License - If driving Cone Health vehicle, must have 5 years of driving experience and MVR must be approved by Risk Managment.
