The Research Technician will provide the primary care for our unique colony of hemophilic dogs and swine with cardiovascular disorders. The Research Technician provides a critical role in assessing animals, providing emergency care and other appropriate treatments. The other key function will be in providing technical expertise and support for research studies. The bulk of FOBRL funding originates from these studies that are supported by contracts and grants.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Experience managing/evaluating dogs and/or swine that have various medical conditions. At a minimum, this should include experience with venipuncture and delivery of and recovery from anesthesia.

Candidate should be able to operate standard vet equipment, understand veterinary procedures, animal husbandry, be able to work independently and be able to work dynamically with a team during emergencies.

Availability to work rotating evenings, weekends, holidays and during inclement weather is essential in order to care for our colonies.

Experience managing/evaluating dogs that have various medical conditions, especially hemophilia and swine with cardiovascular diseases.

Experience with breeding dogs and/or swine and maintaining germ lines of animals with inherited disorders.

Veterinary Technician License and AALAS certification.

Research experience in a university setting with large animal models of disease while maintaining IACUC and USDA requirements and AAALACi recommendations.

Must be able to move animals up to 700 pounds with or without accommodation.
