Terracon Consultants, a nationwide engineering consulting firm, is seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our team in Greensboro, North Carolina. This position would be part of a very skilled team that performs indoor air quality surveys, asbestos and lead-based paint surveys, and other activities. General Responsibilities:

This position will be primarily based in Greensboro, NC and provide support for projects throughout North Carolina and Virginia, as needed.


You will conduct initial building inspections, abatement project oversight and assist senior project managers with industrial hygiene. In addition, you will support other environmental services, as needed.

Building inspection job duties will include field documentation, collection of bulk samples, review of laboratory documents, and data reporting.

Job duties related to industrial hygiene assessments include the performance of microbial investigations with sampling, other personal sample monitoring such as silica and lead, and data reporting.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Perform site visits, field observations, and field data collection or assignments.
  • Assist in the collection and analysis of data from sampling, reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs to evaluate, plan, and permit projects.
  • Implement technical requirements to complete client projects by directing field staff to sample, test and collect data and/or document site activities.
  • Outlines required investigative program(s) by selecting the proper alternative techniques to conduct site studies in field of expertise.
  • Drafts written proposals to clients for small projects and may assist with portions of proposals on larger projects.
  • May devise new approaches to problems encountered.
  • Must have North Carolina or Virginia asbestos inspector, air monitor, and lead inspector licenses or meet requirements to attain license within six months of hire.
  • Performance of building inspections for asbestos-containing building materials in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform air monitoring and visual inspections during asbestos and lead abatement projects.
  • Sampling of painted coatings in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Calibrate, clean, and maintain field monitoring equipment, such as sampling devices, sampling media and sample pumps and meters.
  • Candidate will be required to adhere to strict company health and safety standards.
  • Ability to climb ladders, lift/carry equipment (generally up to 50 lbs.), stand for long periods of time.
  • Assist management with reporting and project management tasks alongside PMs/APR.
  • May assist environmental and other departments when scopes crossover or require additional guidance.
  • May have limited client contact pertaining to specific projects/tasks.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or related science field and a minimum 1 year related experience. Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years' related experience.
  • North Carolina and/or Virginia Asbestos Inspector License.
  • North Carolina and/or Virginia Air Monitor License.
  • North Carolina and/or Virginia Lead Inspector License.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
