General Accountant Essential Functions*:

  • Monthly reporting and accounting of Worker's Compensation costs.
  • Calculate and pay federal excise tax to the Alcohol and Tabacco Tax and Trade Bureau. File quarterly reports with the government.
  • Calculate US sales, use tax owed, and report to Ernst & Young.
  • Research generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to ensure compliance with up-to-date guidelines.
  • Calculate goods and services tax, harmonized sales tax, Quebec sales tax, and taxes owed to Canada, and report and pay proper authorities.
  • Maintain SAP for tax jurisdiction codes.
  • Report project spending for special bond agreements.
  • Maintain project and fixed asset SAP systems.
  • Prepare journal entries related to project spending and depreciation.
  • Complete monthly fixed asset activity (additions, retirements, transfers, etc.).
  • Perform random physicals of fixed assets.
  • Perform departmental property verifications.
  • Work closely with engineering and CAR coordinator on the status of CAR spending and completion dates.
  • Complete government reporting.
  • Maintain SOX documentation for fixed assets and support internal and external audits.
  • Prepare insurance value reporting.
  • Estimate monthly depreciation expense and project expense.
  • Fulfill various monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting requirements.
  • Various other closing accounting and analysis duties.

General Accountant Position Requirements*:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree** in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum three years of recent related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; SAP preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, manage high-volume workload, and willingness to be collaborative and support team efforts.
  • Must possess excellent analytical, communication (verbal and written), leadership, organizational, presentation, problem-solving, project management, and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • This position requires access to ITAR controlled technical data, and as such, employment will be contingent upon the candidate's ability to access ITAR controlled technical data pursuant to an export license approved by the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, if required.
